Short version: Most of your data (cards, XP, achievements, photos) stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app. A small amount of anonymous gameplay data (an ID, your chosen username, and your score) is kept on our server only to run the leaderboard and referral features — see section 6 for exactly how long, and how to have it deleted. We do not sell your data and we do not require an account.

1. Who we are
FlashDog is a mobile application that identifies dog breeds using your camera and generates collectible holographic cards. Contact: [email protected]

2. Data collected and why
Camera Used to take photos of dogs for breed identification. Photos are processed and stored locally on your device.
Location (optional) Used to show your dog encounters on a personal map and to record the city of each scan on your cards. Location data is stored locally on your device and is never shared with third parties. You can deny location permission and the app will still function.
Dog photos sent to Google Gemini AI To identify a breed, photos are sent to the Google Gemini API. We do not store a copy of these photos on our own servers — they pass through our proxy in memory and are forwarded straight to Google. Google's own privacy policy governs how they process and retain API requests. → https://policies.google.com/privacy
Dog photos sent for background removal When you scan a dog, the photo is also sent to a background-removal service (RapidAPI / background-removal-ai) to cut your dog out onto its card. As with Gemini, this photo passes through our proxy in memory only — we do not keep a copy — and is returned to your device once processed. You can turn this off in Settings ("Skip photo cutout"), in which case no photo is sent to this service at all.
Local database Your card collection, XP, achievements, and companion dog are stored only in a local database on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.
Leaderboard & referral data (stored on our server) FlashDog has no account system, but the weekly/all-time leaderboard and the friend-referral feature need somewhere to keep score across devices. When you use these features, our server stores: a randomly-generated device ID (created on your device, not derived from any hardware identifier), the username you chose in the app, and your XP/streak/breed-count/referral-code needed to show rankings and pay out rewards. No photo ever leaves your device for this. See section 6 for how long this is kept and how to delete it.
Purchases (optional) If you unlock unlimited scans, the purchase is processed entirely by Google Play. We never see or store your payment details. RevenueCat receives your purchase status only to confirm what you're entitled to.
